This week we wanted to create something different. Something that we felt we needed to do. This past year has been difficult for Geneva Park and we are not sure if it will be around forever. Devon has been going to YMCA Geneva Park every summer since she was born and her mother since she was a child. GP is a conference centre, leadership camp, summer resort, community, family, home and much much more. This place is no regular family camp and we wanted to show everyone what it means to us and the people of GP. Here's to Geneva Park ❤️
We hope you're enjoying some summer vacation time, perhaps at Geneva Park! As week 6 begins at the park, we wanted to share some informative updates that you will now also find in all accommodations at the park during your stay. See here for a copy!
Many of us will be heading up to Geneva Park over the coming months, so we wanted to give you an update on where the process is currently, what’s next, and what to expect if you visit the park for a stay this summer.
Russ Davey was Executive Director of YMCA Geneva from 1977 to 1991. In earlier stages of his career, he served on the staff of the YMCA Canada and was CEO of several YMCA associations across Canada. Russ has been a member, staff member and volunteer with the YMCA in Canada for 81 years.
The following excerpts were drawn from some of Russ’ recent emails. Russ endorsed this synopsis.
Russ Davey has spent 82 of his 91 years with the YMCA as a cornerstone of his life; 40 of those years as a YMCA staff member, 30 years as a donor and as the CEO of Geneva Park for 14 years. There are few people, if any, more qualified to represent the YMCA’s important role bringing purpose, meaning and opportunities to serve others. This is a series of open letters he has written to the Simcoe Muskoka YMCA and has requested be made available to all allies and supporters of the YMCA mission and philosophy
